Community Coffee Co., the Baton Rouge, La.-based coffee roaster, retailer and coffee service operator, will provide up to $300,000 to benefit participating schools in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region through its Community Cash for Schools(TM) program. In addition, one lucky school will win a $10,000 Classroom Makeover in a random drawing that will occur in November 2007. To be eligible for the drawing, schools must enroll in the Community Cash for Schools program by Oct. 31, 2007.
Community® coffee customers have earned more than $3.5 million for their local schools since the program's inception 19 years ago The Community Cash for Schools program allows schools to earn money by collecting UPCs, or bar codes, from Community® Brand products and sending them to Community Coffee Co. in exchange for a cash donation. Each bar code is worth up to 15 cents. The money can be used in any way the school sees fit: to make structural improvements, supplement educational programs, start a scholarship fund, or purchase books, musical and athletic equipment.
"We believe this program is a simple and effective way for our customers to directly help our local schools," said Matt Saurage, president of the company and fourth-generation founding family member, in a prepared statement. "We thank the many teachers and volunteers who coordinate this program in their schools, and encourage everyone to participate in Cash for Schools in some way so that the funds earned by our area schools can be even better this year."
