Court Sentences Foodservice Employee For Food Tampering


A federal judge sentenced an eastern Kentucky foodservice employee to a year of home detention for putting a metal staple into meatloaf, according to The Herald Leader in Lexington, Ky. The employee pled guilty to product tampering. She wanted to get another employee in trouble, and caused the product manufacturer to recall a 3,750-pound shipment. The staple was recovered.

Editor’s Insight: This story demonstrates how easily a disgruntled employee can create a severe problem for a foodservice provider. In this case, the problem was uncovered before someone was injured. The product manufacturer had to recall a big shipment.
