Editor's Insight: This report is worth noting in light of the extremely challenging business climate that all foodservice operators are facing. Some reports have indicated that restaurants are facing their most difficult times in many years due to rising food and fuel prices; consumers aren't eating out as much.
Vending and onsite foodservice operators have noted that consumers have become more value conscious. One positive observation has been that more consumers are opting not to leave the work place for lunch in order to save gasoline; some have noted that lunch room activity has picked up.
Even in locations where consumers are choosing to remain on-site for meals, they are looking harder than ever for value. Vending and onsite foodservice operators must offer the best values possible, taking into account quality, variety and price. 05-09-08
